I found this image on the website of a midwife/blogger named Sarah Stewart. You can read her blog/posting here.
It talks about the "Cascade of Normal", a somewhat recent response to the "Cascade of Interventions" in birth.
I like this concept, because it talks about how healthy women caring for other healthy women influences the `culture of confidence around natural birth`. This culture of confidence in women`s bodies is what is so lost in society right now, and what we as healthy women need to fight to regain...and there is only one way to do it...by educating ourselves, talking to other women, trusting our own bodies, and sharing our experiences.
If you are a young woman who has a positive birth experience, I think this is even more important, as the culture around teen and youth pregnancy is so toxic. The medical world, hand in hand with the entertainment world, has taken birth and made it into something to fear and avoid. Women of all ages need to reclaim this...starting a cascade of normal at as many points throughout society as we can.
